Oudtshoorn is weaved into the heart of the welknown Klein Karoo and in this spectacular region lies the picturesque little towns that give life to the environment, namely:

Oudtshoorn is divided into four main sectors with Wesbank being the elite part of town. The other three remaining sectors are North, South and East. East being the Industrial area of Oudtshoorn.

There are three main roads leading to Oudtshoorn. One from Cape Town (Voortrekker Road), from De Rust (Voortrekker Road) and George/Port Elizabeth (Langenhoven Road).

The mountain fynbos is the most secure of the four fynbos vegetation types, primarily because the steep, rocky slopes are not suited to cultivation. Nevertheless they have been invaded by a number of alien tree and shrub species. These days great efforts are made to try and eradicate these invaders but only a few decades ago the authorities happily gave out seeds of these "foreigners" to hikers to scatter in the pristine mountain wilderness.
