Contact Klein Karoo Wine Route

"The Klein Karoo Wine Route stretches from Cogmanskloof outside Montagu in the West to the Langkloof in the East."

This Klein Karoo wine route forms part of the eight wine regions in South Africa. They are large in the area, but small in production. The product is pleasant, fruity and drinkable, which places them among the best in South African context. Creativity of the vintner combined with the expertise of the grower produce wine which will amaze the connoisseur and delight the lover of wine. Travelers must be allowed themselves to be seduced by the wonderful spectrum of taste.

Not to be missed is the awe-inspiring, spectacular rock formations of Seweweekspoort.

Calitzdorp

Calitzdorp, overlooking a valley that spills like a "Horn of Plenty" from the Swartberg foothills, is the fruit-bowl of Kannaland and source of the country's finest port wines, therefore known as Port Capital of the world.

For nowhere is the authentic character of a Klein Karoo community and the unique architecture of the region better preserved. In the spectacular mountains that shelter Calitzdorp on three sides, Nature too, seems unspoiled by the twentieth century.

7. AXE HILL WINERY - Only one vintage Port is made at the cellar each year from a blend of the traditional Portuguese varietals Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca and Souz„o. The wine is matured in French oak barrels after hand sorting and foot crushing for maximum extraction of both flavours and colour. A dry, white Port is made in a unique, wood-aged Solera style, combining old to young vintages with fractional blends starting from the first vintage made in 2003 and leaving some of each vintage as reserve wine for future releases.
